Music in Recovery

This group will focus on discussion and music therapy approaches to be used as a coping skill. Participants do not need to know how to play a musical instrument.
 
COVID 19 has created an extremely stressful time for Veterans in the community and many express themselves through the use of music, whether recorded or playing an instrument.  The social isolation imposed on individuals can create stress.  Music-based interventions can provide an opportunity to share with others through self-expression, and help to identify ways to improve mood and boost morale by using music as a therapeutic medium.

Middle of the Day Meditation
 
Time: 1:00 PM- 2:00 PM (EST)
Location: Virtual
 
Group will start with introductions and identification of key stressors and close with identifying physical and mental reduction experienced. A full body guided meditation will allow participants to engage and muscle relaxation along with mental relaxation. This practice teaches you to slow down racing thought, let go of negativity and calm both your mind and body. Format is individualized to lying on the floor or a sitting position. Participant are encouraged to have quiet space inside their home or outside if possible. Headphones are encouraged.

This is an educational group that will cover topics such as VJO services (what VJO can & cannot do), meeting your VJOs, learning about VA resources, linking Veterans to the appropriate VJO, learning about community resources/programs (including information about probation & treatment courts), etc. Based upon need, VJO may bring in guest facilitators from residential treatment, Mental Health Clinic, Wellness & Recovery Center, Substance Use Disorder Clinic, PCT Clinic, MHICM, Primary Care, etc. VJOs will be available to respond to immediate needs/questions during group.
