Chronic Pain Management
The science related to how our bodies experience pain has made great progress over the past 25 years. However, there is still a lot about chronic pain-related issues that science does not fully understand. Our Chronic Pain Management Team keeps updated in the latest science and trends in Chronic Pain Management treatment. Ongoing or chronic pain can affect many areas of one’s life, such as worsening mood, decreased health, feeling tired, etc. and/or cause problems with work, roles, and relationships. Too much rest and inactivity or overdoing activity can make pain worse in the long-run. Chronic pain can become a life-long issue to manage.
The best quality pain management services involve a number of healthcare providers from various disciplines working together to provide you with the knowledge and skill to manage your pain with confidence. In general, the goals of pain self-management are to help reduce your pain experience while also providing you skills, knowledge and confidence in your ability to effectively manage your pain. This in part helps to improve your mood and emotional well-being, as well as to improve functioning and participation in important activities. Family members or significant others are welcome to participate in some services.
Talk with your Primary Care Provider about whether or not these services are right for you and your chronic pain-related issues.
Your role in managing chronic pain
The most important person in this process is YOU. You are the only one who can decide which daily practices will help you improve your well-being and better function throughout the day (and night). The best outcomes in pain management services are very much linked to an individual’s commitment to attending appointments, following up with referrals, openness to new ideas, and being an active participant in the process of managing chronic pain.
