What We Do

The medical unit admits patients for substance abuse detox, palliative care, and those in need of medical care. The medically ill include but are not limited to those with pneumonia, cellulitis, dehydration, or pancreatitis, along with many other illnesses. The staff care for Veterans who will return home, those waiting for long term care placement, or other placements such as adult foster care home.

Service Information

The Medical/Detoxification Unit is located in building 82 on the first floor. The unit is capable of continuous cardiac monitoring. The majority of the patients are admitted for observation and IV infusions. The nurses also provide outpatient procedures such as PICC line dressing changes, phlebotomies and iron infusions to name a few.  All of the Providers, Registered Nurses (RN’s) and Licensed Practical Nurses ( LPN’s) on the unit are certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

The Medical Response Team is comprised of a Registered Nurse from the acute medical unit, a Provider/Physician, and Paramedics who are on duty 24 hours a day 7 days a week for any emergencies on the facility grounds.
