Palliative Care

Palliative Care
What We Do

Palliative Care is the medical specialty that focuses on relieving distressing symptoms (physical, emotional, spiritual, psychosocial) for Veterans with life-limiting illnesses. This is accomplishes by using a combination of comfort oriented therapies and supportive services. Hospice Care is an acute type of Palliative Care provided to Veterans with advanced illnesses who are not expected to survive past six months.

Palliative Care differs from Hospice in that a prognosis of six months or less is not required and the Veteran may be undergoing curative treatments for the condition simultaneously.
