What We Do

The Battle Creek VA Medical Center and Wyoming VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic process nearly 3,000 prescriptions daily. Many of these prescriptions are filled by the Consolidated Mail Outpatient Pharmacy (CMOP). Prescriptions may be refilled by internet, mail, phone, or by dropping off your request at the pharmacy.

New Prescriptions
  1. After seeing your provider, take a number to see a pharmacist.
  2. When your number appears on the wall, please see the pharmacist in the counseling bay.

The pharmacist will discuss the following information with you:

  • New medications ordered by your provider
  • Drug/drug and drug/food interactions
  • Side effects
  • Which medications to place on hold so they don’t get mailed
  • Questions you may have

You may call to request refills and inquire on the status of current prescriptions. You can reach the Automated Telephone Refill Line toll-free at 1-888-214-1247.

  2. Press 1 for pharmacy
  3. Press 1 for prescription refills OR
    Press 2 if you are out of refills

Order refills at least two weeks before you run out of medicine. Please allow 7-10 days to receive these through the mail.

Refills at Medical Center/Clinic Pharmacy

All veterans are encouraged to refill their prescriptions by internet, phone, or mail. Refills will be mailed to patients.

You may drop off your refill request form at our medical centers, but your prescriptions will be mailed to you. Your prescriptions will then come to you in the mail within 7-10 days.

Please Note:

  • We cannot dispense more than a 30-day supply of any controlled substance at one time.
  • A prescription is not valid after 1 year, regardless of the number of refills remaining.
  • Prescriptions for controlled substances are not valid after 6 months, regardless of the number of refills remaining.
  • Narcotics cannot be refilled.
  • A new prescription cancels any previous prescription written for the same strength of the same drug.

Steps to Safe Medication Disposal:

  1. Utilize MedSafe blue disposal containers located in Battle Creek Building 2, ground floor by the vending machines and the Wyoming VA CBOC to the left of the pharmacy counseling bays.
  2. Call or visit either pharmacy location to receive a TakeBack medication return bag to allow for safe disposal through the mail.
  3. Speak with your provider about receiving a TakeBack medication return bag in the mail from our mail order pharmacy.

Disposal of Needles, Syringes and Lancets (Sharps)

Refer to and click “Michigan” to find sites around your area to dispose of sharps containers

Examples of some available:

  • Calhoun County:
    One free mail back container annually from Calhoun County Solid Waste Department
  • Kent County:
    American Medical Response 517 South Division, Grand Rapids accepts full sharps containers dropped off, in person

Place all needles, syringes, and lancets in a hard plastic container with a screw-on or tightly secured lid. (i.e. FDA-cleared sharps container or heavy laundry detergent bottle with screw-on lid).

Dispose of used sharps disposal containers according to your community guidelines.

Local or National Disaster

The Pharmacy has back up plans to make sure you receive your medications if a local or national disaster should occur. Please follow the same procedures for obtaining refills as above, if appropriate.
